Ask your Member of Congress to Co-Sponsor Federal Two-Person Crew Legislation

SMART.jpg

Congressman Don Young of Alaska has introduced legislation to require two-person crews on all freight trains – H.R. 1748. This bill is the same as last session's H.R. 233, which would require a federally certified conductor and locomotive engineer on every freight train operating in America.

This federal legislation is a major priority for our union. If passed, it would protect our members against the unsafe prospects of working by themselves on a train and protect the communities from dangerous single person or even no person trains.

I ask that you that you send a message today to your Member of Congress and ask that they co-sponsor H.R. 1748. You can either send the pre-drafted H.R. 1748 message or create your own message about the importance of rail safety.

Your help is critical to passing this important legislation. Sending a message is the first step. Calling their office or even meeting with your Member of Congress when they are back in the state would even be more helpful.
