SMART-TD Legislative Office Seeks Clarification of PTC Controls

Many of us if not all of us working in the railroad industry have been exposed to and are operating Positive Train Control (PTC) trains. This is a safety appliance that the FRA mandated to be developed and implemented into production to mitigate train accidents.

In the final rule published January 10, 2010, concerning PTC some very specific requirements were established concerning the functionality of the display screens. Currently the Engineer screen is the data entry point when the regulation dictates the Conductors screen should have that function. That the organization is seeking clarification from Robert Lauby, Associate Administration for Railroad Safety and Chief Safety Officer.
